Two colourful float parades

A 30-strong parade takes to the streets at 11am and 2pm on Saturday for the Rose Fair celebrations.

Wisbech Round Table organise the colourful parade which boasts floats, bands and marching attractions.

Peterborough Pipe Band head the parade followed by the float carrying this year’s Rose Queen, Rosie Middleton.

Rosie and attendants Helena Parkinson and Amelia Oram – children of Tablers James Oram and Ian Parkinson – will be showering the crowds with rose petals picked locally.

The floats assemble in Queens Road and both parades follow the usual route around the town.

Schools, businesses and organisations have been busy decorating and preparing the floats on this year’s theme of “Heroes”.

Trophies are presented for the winning senior and junior entries and the difficult task of judging this year goes to Round Table chairman James Oram and his wife Emma, Mayor and Mayoress David and Barbara Oliver, town beadle Alister Hopkins and councillor Simon King.

The parade includes the Abbey Twirlettes, rock band Turmoil, Norfolk Music Works and some classic vehicles.

Money raised goes to the Round Table and in turn to local charities and causes. Tablers will be dressed as knights following the parade on foot and taking donations in collection buckets.
