A farmer opted for an unusual form of wedding day transport by driving his bride away from church in his favourite tractor.
Alan Day and Danielle Hammond surprised the guests at Tilney St Lawrence Church by leaving in a John Deere 8 series after tying the knot on Saturday.
A “just married” sign was posted in the back window and the couple received lots of good will beeps and waves from passing motorists as they made their way to Leziate Sailing Club for their reception.
The tractor was loaned to the happy couple for the day by Mr Day’s employers , Farmcare at Coldham, near Wisbech.
The new Mrs Day, 25, of Walpole St Peter, said: “It was brilliant. It was completely different to have a tractor and it was lovely to have it there.
“Everything went smoothly. It was a perfect day.
“All of the guests thought the tractor was amazing and we had so many people wave and beep at us as we drove to the reception. It was lovely.”
The couple have been together for three-and-a-half years and Mr Day popped the big question while the couple were holidaying in Salou in August 2012.
Mr Day surprised guests on Saturday by arriving in the tractor, which younger guests enjoyed having their picture take with following the ceremony.
Danielle said: “All the guests thought it was amazing and a couple of little boys absolutely loved it.”
With some help, she was able to climb into the tractor to be driven away for the reception. She said: “It was lovely to have so many good wishes as we drove to the reception.”
The couple hope to go on honeymoon later this week.
