Wind farm grants

Substantial grants are on offer from two windfarm developments to help community groups improve their environment.

The grants from the Glassmoor Local Environment Fund are open to groups from Whittlesey, Pondersbridge, Ramsey Mereside, Eastrea and Coates. Any applications in the current bidding process must be in by June 23. Money is also available from the Whitemill Environment Fund, a new fund set up for groups in Coldham, Ring’s End, Friday Bridge and Elm. Bids close on September 1. Any application for either fund must demonstrate both environmental and educational benefit for the local community.

ARMED FORCES DAY

A Service of Commemoration to honour the nation’s armed forces will be held at St Mary’s Church, Whittlesey, at noon on June 27, the day before this year’s official Armed Forces Day. It has been organised by Councillor Ken Mayor, chairman of Fenland District Council. Everyone is welcome.

CHATTERIS FESTIVAL

Three days of fun are in prospect at Chatteris Midsummer Festival.

It is one of Fenland District Council’s major Four Seasons events and runs from June 27-29 with many of last year’s popular attractions, including schools day on the Friday, Party in the Park (Saturday) and the fun dog show, tug of war and It’s a Knockout (Sunday).

RECYCLING FUN DAY

With the Tour de France coming to Cambridge next month, cycling is the theme of the Re-Cycling Open Day at AmeyCespa’s waste management park at Waterbeach on June 21 (10am-4pm).

The day will include a cycle try-out around a recycled track, cycle-powered smoothie makers showing how to reduce food waste and the chance to win bike lights.

The open day is a joint venture between AmeyCespa and Cambridgeshire County Council. Entry is free. Details: 01223 861010.
