A review into the premises licence of a Wisbech store was adjourned on Monday due to lack of an interpreter.

Fenland District Council’s licensing committee was due to discuss the licence of Wisbech Off Licence, on Nene Quay, but the meeting could not go ahead as licence holder Hassan Ali Pispar did not bring an interpreter.

The police called in the review of the premises licence after non duty paid cigarette and counterfeit tobacco were found in the shop.

Non duty paid cigarettes were found on the premises previously and in February last year, conditions were placed on the licence following a similar review.

When the premises were searched in December, police found two black bags of coins hidden under the counter in breach of a licence condition, Mr Pispar had foreign cigarettes and tobacco in his pockets and more tobacco was found elsewhere in the shop. Mr Pispar stated the tobacco was not intended for sale.

The licence review will take place at a later date.
