WISBECH: Two schoolgirls die in A47 crash
The spot where two children died after their car went off the A47 at Wisbech.
Two young girls have died following a crash on the A47 at Wisbech last night (Thursday).
The girls, aged seven and 10, were travelling in a black Ford Focus that left the notorious stretch of road near Broadend Road East and flipped over. They died in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn as a result of their injuries.
The two adults and one other child that were also in the car are still in hospital, although their injuries are not believed to be serious.
The incident happened at around 6.40pm. The car ended up on its side at the edge of a ditch. The road was closed in both directions for several hours and re-opened shortly before 10.30pm.
Officers continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident and how the vehicle came to leave the road.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information concerning it.
Witnesses should contact Sgt Peter Howlett at Swaffham Roads Policing on 101.
