Work out - and stay out of hospital

Enjoy a workout ‘taster’ session for a good cause – and find out how to keep fit and tone up your heart. That’s the offer to people in the Wisbech and Fenland area who are being urged to take part in an event for the ‘Healthy Hearts’ campaign being run by The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn (QEH).

The event is a one-day fundraiser organised by Wisbech-based Esselle Ladies Health and Leisure club in support of ‘Healthy Hearts’. They will be taking over the Sports and Community Centre in Wisbech St Mary for the day on Sunday March 3, offering samples of fun workouts to keep your heart and circulation in top form.

Coronary heart disease remains the UK’s single biggest killer, accounting for more than 82,000 deaths a year. Nearly three million people are living with the condition.

The QEH fundraising campaign aims to raise £200,000 for new heart monitoring and diagnostic equipment.

Esselle proprietor Lisa Harvey-Vile, who has organised the March 3 event, said: “It seemed such a good cause to support. We are in the same line of business as the hospital, in that we want to keep people fit and healthy and help them avoid being admitted to hospital with a heart condition.

“On March 3 anyone – men or women - can just turn up at the sports centre between 10 and 3. For a minimum £5 donation for the fundraising campaign you can try out any of our activities under the supervision of expert trainers. You can stay for the whole time or just until you feel you have done enough. All the money raised will go to ‘Healthy Hearts’.”

Activities on offer will include zumba, ‘cardio-combat’ workout, circuit training and ‘legs, bums and tums’ toning. Local instructor Nicola Floyd, who has helped to organise the day, will be offering ‘Kettlercise’, while Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist Kristian Hunns will be on hand to offer free leg massage, for an extra £1 donation to ‘Healthy Hearts’, to help people get through the day.
