A GROUP who have campaigned tirelessly for the past two and a half years to get a play area in Leverington are celebrating after a last push of fundraising resulted in the money being raised.
Work is due to start on the new play area, which will be situated at Leverington Sports and Social Club, in the next month and should only take a matter of days to complete.
Sarah Davey was the driving force behind the Leverington Playground Group and is very excited that work will finally be starting.
She said: “We managed to raise about £7-£8,000 through fundraising, but the majority of the money came from Fenland District Council funding. We are very grateful to Steve Tierney, who got us the grant, otherwise we would still be fundraising.”
The group’s last fundraising push was their Easter Monday Family Fun Day, held at the social club.
It was very well supported, both by visitors and local groups, and raised more than £2,200.
There are still a few spaces in the planned playground which the group will be filling with play equipment for the younger children in the village.
An official opening for the playground is also being arranged for later in the year.
