Wisbech Lions club has presented £700 to help local blind and partially sighted people.
The cheque was given to Wisbech & District Talking Newspaper’s BoomBox appeal, which will see items recorded on memory sticks rather than cassettes or CDs and used on specially designed BoomBoxes.
Lions’ president David Smart and vice president Ray Hill attended the most recent meeting of the Talking Newspaper to present the money.
They were interested to hear about the Talking Newspaper’s plans for the next six to 12 months regarding moving over to digital recordings, and were pleased to learn what a difference their donation will make, not only to the Talking Newspaper, but also to the lives of its blind and partially sighted listeners.
Talking Newspaper’s press officer Isobel Shippey said: “We were completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the Lions’ donation. We simply couldn’t believe it. It’s a great boost to our appeal. With donations from other groups we should reach our target of £2,000 very shortly. The generosity of people has astounded us.”
