MARCH town centre was grid-locked for several hours yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon after a lorry careered off the by-pass hitting a tree and causing the road to be closed.
The accident happened at around 10.45am when a Turner’s lorry left the road at the top of the by-pass close to the Tesco roundabout during heavy rain.
As a result the east-bound carriageway was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident causing diversions to be put in place.
The west-bound carriageway was later closed while the lorry was recovered and a tree surgeon was called to deal with a tree damaged in the accident.
Traffic was diverted through the town centre between the Mill Hill and the Tesco roundabouts causing major tailbacks.
The by-pass was eventually re-opened at around 3.45pm.
