MEMBERS of Volunteer Centre Fenland were at March’s Fleming Court on Saturday for the launch of the organisation’s supported volunteering project.

Mayor of March Bernard Keane, helped to mark the launch, which was supported with a 1,000 leaflet drop.

Mr Keane cut a special cake along with centre manager Annette Houghton and Stephen Drew, the project worker.

The centre is hoping to ‘Make a Difference’ with the launch of the two-year pilot project, funded by Roddons Housing Association, for March East and the surrounding area.

People were invited to come along and find out about volunteering and organisations were also invited to promote themselves and recruit on the day.

The launch is being hailed a success by Annette who said she was very pleased with the response which saw around 30 people sign in.

This month’s Volunteer View features appeals from the British Red Cross, St John Ambulance. and groups in Whittlesey and Wisbech.

British Red Cross representatives will be in Whittlesey market square on Friday where two of its voluntary sections, The Care in the Home – Fenland Scheme and the Fire & Emergency Support Service, are giving advice on winter warmth and preparing for winter.

They will be demonstrating an ‘Emergency Box’ for power cuts or the loss of other utilities. Potential volunteers are being urged to come along and find out about opportunities in Fenland.

St John Ambulance is looking to train volunteers in life-saving skills to an advanced first aider level. Its volunteers also provide first aid cover at a host of public events.

Volunteers are also sought to work with children and young people with the Whittlesey after school club and Dramarama in Wisbech.

Both groups run through the school holidays and volunteers will be CRB checked.

If you are up for a challenge and fancy a couple of hours a week being a mentor within a drama class for under 15s, then Dramarama in Wisbech is for you.

Contact the Volunteer Centre Fenland at Wisbech on 01945-582192, Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays from 9am to 2.30pm for volunteer opportunities.

There is a drop-in on Mondays and Tuesdays 11am to noon at the centre, based at the Rosmini Centre in Queens Road.
