Fitness fanatics enjoyed a day of exercise in the name of charity on Saturday to raise money for the newly launched A Local Wish.

Around 40 participants were put through their paces at the fitness fun day at Wisbech St Mary by instructors Nicola Floyd and Julia Baraclough.

The day was the first in a long list of charity events being organised by Wisbech businesswomen Nickie Bantoft of Bantoft and Co and Christina Purcell of Holiday with Us being planned for A Local Wish this year.

The aim is to raise around £5,000 which will be used to fund special treats and make wishes come true for local people nominated for an array of reasons from being a good neighbour to overcoming a personal tragedy.

Nominations have flooded in since the charity’s launch was featured in the Citizen and Nickie and Christina are currently drawing up a list of those whose wishes will be granted at the end of the year.

The next fundraising events are a dress auction at the Hare and Hounds on North Brink Wisbech on May 9, tickets and more information is available from the pub and from the Citizen office.

A team is also taking part in the Grand East Anglia Run (GEAR) in King’s Lynn on May 5 - to join in simply visit the GEAR website to sign up.
