A paedophile has been jailed after pleading guilty to possession of more than 12,000 indecent images of children.

Colin Pope, 56, of Doddington Road, Wimblington, had also hidden a camera in a victim’s bathroom, Cambridge Crown Court was told.

The court heard how police officers raiding his home, on May 13 last year, found 12,300 indecent images of children on digital devices.

The evidence obtained during the investigation also revealed Pope had been committing acts of voyeurism with a hidden camera he had placed in a victim’s bathroom, as well as secretly recording women and teenage girls in public without their knowledge.

Pope made a full admission during his police interview to the charges, which included two counts of possession of indecent images of children, two counts of making indecent images of children, one count of voyeurism and one count of outraging public decency.

He was sentenced to three years imprisonment.

Det Con Lloyd Metselaar welcomed the sentencing and sent out a warning to people looking at this material.

He said: “I want to make it clear to anyone seeking out this material on the internet that it is not simply an image.

“Every one of these images and videos captures a child being sexually abused or exploited.

“It is only a matter of time before we knock on offenders’ doors and they and their families will be faced with the consequences of your actions.”
