The Manor Leisure Centre in Whittlesey is set to host its biggest event to date - a music festival on
August 31 that will also feature a mini beer festival, fairground rides and various workshops and activities for children.
It is one of more than 20 bookings for the centre over the next few months, including wedding parties, dinner dances, a sportsman’s dinner, meetings and birthday parties.
They have been made possible by the major renovation that included a £140,000 investment in the kitchen and the sports hall to provide a special function room.
The room includes an indoor marquee that can seat up to 220 people. Its success has exceeded all expectations and the centre is currently looking into linking up with a commercial catering partner.
Other events over the summer include a psychic evening on July 5 and a child-friendly disco on July 13 followed by a “boogie night” in the evening.
Councillor Pop Jolley, FDC’s portfolio holder responsible for leisure, said: “A central part of any community is an affordable venue to hold local events. The Manor is a great place to hold almost anything from a family celebration to a serious meeting and its success is a testament to the hard work of the team there.”
