A Fenland sports centre could be in line for a major refurbishment if new extension proposals are rubber stamped by planners.
Fenland District Council has put forward plans to extend the gymnasium, build an activity room and replace the changing rooms at the One Vision George Campbell Leisure Centre in City Road, March.
Development would take place on the raised tier building overlooking West End Park and will also include improvements to update the “dated” outside facade.
The new activity room, which would measure eight metres by 30 metres, would host dance and other fitness and exercise classes, as well as functions such as children’s parties.
Work would be carried out to replace the changing rooms, which are of a “very poor design”, so that they meet the expected customer standards.
The application said: “Fenland District Council recognises the need to provide a high level of leisure facilities to encourage and promote a healthier community.
“The leisure centre will benefit from the new extension and have a pleasing visual impact on the surrounding area as the existing facade is dated and in poor condition.”
