This is the amazing aerial view from a 9,000 tonnes stack fire in Chatteris.
Katie Denham, from AA Microlights, sent us this image that shows the scale of last week’s fire, which was believed to have been started by a lightning strike.
This photo was taken 24 hours after the fire started and shows the straw still smouldering.
One fire crew from Chatteris, two crews from March, one crew from Ramsey and a crew from Ely were mobilised to Langwood Fen at 12.40pm last Tuesday (July 23) to deal with the blaze.
Firefighters used two light portable pumps, pumping water from a nearby open water source through five jets, one hose reel and four ground monitors (a hose reel fixed to the ground) to extinguish the fire.
A fire break was created to stop the fire from spreading to about 17 hectares of standing crops.
Last week’s storms caused problems everywhere, including electricity cables arcing into nearby trees.
