Cambridgeshire Mencap is looking for help from the Fenland community to keep its important monthly activities going on Saturday afternoons.
The group needs to fundraise to ensure that the activities, which are for Fenland adults with a learning disability, don’t have to stop.
This year members have enjoyed a zumba class, a group picnic and arts workshop with a photography workshop and more to follow.
Vanessa Droy, Befriending Scheme Co-ordinator said: “The picnic was a lovely way of getting everyone together, out in the sunshine, playing games and having fun. The monthly activity groups make a real difference to our member’s lives, with vital opportunities to socialise.”
For those living with elderly parents/carers, the activity sessions provide a vital break from their caring responsibilities and allow a chance to try new things and to socialise.
Over the past year, Cambridgeshire Mencap has started to fundraise to cover the costs of these activities and is keen to set up a fundraising group with a view to expanding the variety offered.
Activity sessions have had to stop in the past due to lack of money which is devastating to members and their families.
Cambridgeshire Mencaps wants to make sure this doesn’t happen again and is appealing to people with a few hours to spare each month to come forward.
People looking to develop a career in fundraising can also use this voluntary opportunity to gain some great experience.
The organisation is also looking for volunteers to support its Adult Befriending and Artworks services.
Volunteers receive full training and support and reimbursement of travel and out-of-pocket expenses.
