A MOTHER has hit out at the mess left across two rows of graves in March’s Eastwood Cemetery on Thursday morning.
When she visited her son’s grave she was greeted with the sight of flowers and grass strewn all over, ornaments shattered and wooden markers splintered.
“It is absolute sacrilege,” she said after cleaning up her son’s grave.
In response, Fenland Council said: “We apologise for any mess that was left around a few graves. The Landscape Group, our contractors, work very hard to look after the cemetery and they take great pride in keeping all our cemeteries in an excellent condition.
“To keep all the grass neat and tidy they have to strim close to the headstones. Unfortunately, sometimes they do catch flowers and other items that are inadvertently placed in the grass area.
“Following this incident, we have reminded the team that they have to take extra care near graves and to clean up properly after them. At the same time. we would also ask people not to place anything on the grass area to help prevent any possible damage.”
