OVER 100 oil paintings in the collection of the Wisbech and Fenland Museum can now be viewed on the BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/yourpaintings/

This as a result of collaboration between the Museum and the Public Catalogue Foundation.

The Museum collection of paintings comprise a variety of diverse genres: ranging from landscapes, seascapes and still life to pastoral, military and portraiture.

Of special note among the portrait pictures is a full-length life-size picture of Napoleon I in his Coronation Robes, by Baron Francois Gérard c.1805-9.

“I think people will be surprised by the diversity of the collection and the number of paintings by known artists of genuine interest and of good quality.

“Sadly, limitations of space prevent us from displaying all of paintings in the collections, particularly the portrait of Napoleon and this web site offers a marvelous showcase for the Museum.” said David Wright, curator.
