THE new Phoenix Montessori Nursery at Long Sutton welcomed a royal visitor on Thursday to officially open the refurbished premises at the United Reformed Church.
The Duchess of Gloucester met staff, nursery children and civic dignitaries.
The children had made biscuits specially for the visit and the Duchess was presented with a posy by Elicia Goodchild.
The children sang some songs and presented the Duchess with a picture, including contributions from many of the young pupils.
The Duchess unveiled a plaque and signed the Visitors’ Book before leaving.
Nursery principal Clare Harris said: “It went superbly well.”
She said the Duchess, who herself is a grandmother, was very good with the children.
She took time to visit the newly-opened baby unit where she met staff and saw some of the babies and she also chatted with children who had set up a grocery stall, asking the cost of the vegetables.
The Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, the High Sheriff of the county and leaders of Lincs County Council, South Holland District Council and Long Sutton Parish Council also attended the special occasion.
