Air Cadets from Wisbech took part in the annual Cambridgeshire and Cambridgeshire Wing field Weekend and Review at RAF Wyton.
Cadets from 272 (Wisbech) Squadron competed against 28 other squadrons from across the Wing in varied activities such as drill, aircraft recognition, code breaking, first aid and leadership tasks testing both mental and teamwork abilities.
The wing review took place on the Sunday morning with over 400 cadets and staff on parade. This year the reviewing officer was the new Central and East Regional Commandant Group Captain Geoff Stewart RAF VR(T). Five cadets from 272 were part of the escort squadron who had the honour of escorting the Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing Banner on parade.
Parade over the remainder of weekend consisted of more competition activities before the final parade and awards. This year the team managed to finish in the top half of the table for the Aircraft Recognition competition and also for some of the leadership exercises. Overall winners were 134 (Bedford) Squadron.
“It was an amazing experience with a great atmosphere,” said Cadet Emma Clarke.
The team managed to maintain their overall placing from the previous year - a massive feat as this year the team was made up mostly of younger members of the squadron taking part for the first time.
Wisbech cadets are now recruiting. There will be an open evening on Thursday July 18 at 7.30pm at the Sandyland Street HQ with the intake night on Monday July 22 at 7pm.
