Plenty of punch was packed on Friday when the Waterlees Boxing Club held an open evening.

Over 150 people attended the event, held to celebrate the hard work undertaken by Bob Lawrence and Mike Bucknor with the funds donated from many councils, charities and individuals.

The building off Silver Street had previously been a wood yard and has now been transformed by painting the walls, laying gym flooring, setting up a proper boxing ring and providing equipment. More work is still to be done as those behind the club are looking for funds to complete the changing room and shower.

Among those who attended were Fenland MP (and Honorary president of the club) Steve Barclay, Alan Melton (leader of Fenland Council), Wisbech Mayor Viv MacRae, Clare Claxton of the Thomas Clarkson Academy and club landlord Robert Shoebridge as well as other dignitaries and parents with their children. Two show bouts were put on for the interested young people who along.

The evening was a success with more young people signing up to be members.
