PAUL Medd will take over from Sandra Claxton as Fenland District Council’s Chief Executive on October 1, provided that the full Council rubberstamps his appointment later this month.
Mr Medd, the current deputy Chief Executive, was offered and has accepted the post today (July 11), following a Member-led recruitment process.
Announcing the news in an e-mail to staff today, Ms Claxton said she would be retiring on September 30 and added: “Subject to his appointment being ratified at full Council on July 28, Paul will undertake the role from October 1.”
She said that she and the Leader had been keen to achieve a “seamless transition for the council” by securing her replacement as soon as possible. The appointment of Mr Medd would ensure that continuity.
Ms Claxton said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Paul has accepted the post. He has been with us for more than five years and has made a very big contribution to all the council’s achievements over that time. He is passionate about improving the quality of life for people in Fenland, cares about the staff as FDC’s most precious asset and fiercely believes in the very special culture we value in this organisation. I know I’ll be leaving everything in the best of hands.”
Cllr Alan Melton, FDC’s Leader, said: “Paul’s appointment is obviously subject to ratification by full Council but I’m very, very pleased that he has accepted the offer today. I see him as a very worthy successor to Sandra and I look forward to continuing to work very closely with him, as I have with her.
