THERE were jubilant scenes at Fenland Hall this afternoon (Wednesday) as a planning application for four wind turbines at Tydd St Giles was turned down.

Planning officers had recommended that the four 80-metres high turbines be granted at Treading Field, but councillors went against this and voted unanimously to refuse the application by Wind Ventures Limited.

There was standing room only inside Fenland Hall at a planning meeting.

The opposition had some strong representation at the meeting where it was standing room only, including resident Belinda Francis whose 17-year-old daughter suffers from epilepsy, county councillor Steve Tierney and chairman of Fenland District Council Michael Humphrey.

Ms Francis said: “We are really pleased. It goes to show that the local voice does work!”
