Children from Marshland St James Primary School, Duke of Edinburgh Award students from Marshland High School at West Walton and Wisbech Mayor Viv MacRae, dug deep to help staff and residents at Hickathrift care home plant 500 trees to create a new Woodland Trust wood.
Barchester Healthcare teamed with the Woodland Trust to be part of this green initiative. The tree planting day was also part of the Trust’s wider Jubilee Woods Project to plant six million trees to mark The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Cllr MacRae said: “What a fantastic idea to plant 500 trees and seeing the children from local schools joining in. We need to plant more trees. It will benefit the residents of Hickathrift House both spiritually and therapeutically to have a Woodland Walk and of course will also encourage wildlife.”
Susan Scarlett, General Manager at Hickathrift, said: “We are very thankful for all the local community support, as the new wood will really benefit those living at Hickathrift.”
