WISBECH Town Council has received re-accreditation for Quality Town Council.

The prestigious award was presented to the council at Mayor Jonathan Farmer’s last full council meeting before stepping down from the position.

Steven Wilkinson, chairman of the Accreditation Board, and his officer Diane Bayliss attended the meeting to present the award.

Mr Wilkinson said what a pleasure it was to be in Wisbech and praised town clerk Erbie Murat for his hard work and said his portfolio was the largest and best organised he had seen.

He said it’s important that parish and town councils take more of a leading role and that Wisbech was certainly doing so.

Cllr Farmer reported on his year as Mayor and said he and his wife Susanah had enjoyed a very busy year representing Wisbech.

As tradition dictates, he will be standing down as Mayor at mayor making on Friday, May 18.

The Mayor elect is Cllr Viv MacRae, who is looking forward to taking over the reins.
