A YEAR ago today (Wednesday), Cambridgeshire and indeed most of the country had been covered in a thick blanket of snow.
While it helped with the general festive feeling, it of course meant that getting around Cambridgeshire was more difficult, and our highways staff did a wonderful job keeping the county moving.
Winter is of course a time when looking after the more vulnerable older members of our community becomes more important – which is why I am encouraging residents, through my Christmas message, to be good neighbours over the festive holiday season.
Last month, the County Council lined up alongside its partners in the NHS and voluntary services to support a new scheme called Help at Home.
Help at Home offers simple, basic help with tasks like shopping, collecting prescriptions and checking on older neighbours to see that they are warm and well,
Getting involved is easy – either ring 01223-714433, or visit www.care-network.org.uk
Christmas is time for friends and family and good cheer, but it is also one for remembering those who may not have friends or family around them.
Can I wish everyone across the county a very happy Christmas, and a peaceful and prosperous 2012.
