Best results ever at Anglia in Bloom

Wisbech again led the way as Fenland celebrated its best year ever at the Anglia in Bloom awards. The district picked up a grand total of 13 awards for local communities - and a special one for an outstanding individual.

In what were hailed as “a magnificent set of results for Fenland”, there were two golds, four silver gilts, five silvers and a bronze, plus the prize for the best conservation project. For Fenland’s winning categories visit; www.fenland.gov.uk/angliainbloom

Don’t lose your right to vote

Canvassers will be delivering forms to all homes in the district from the 2nd October to the 20th October 2013.

Failure to respond will mean losing the right to vote and could affect future credit ratings.

Data for the forms was sent to the printers on the 18th September, therefore not all notified changes will be shown on the form. The form should still be completed with any relevant details and returned, even if you have only recently registered or advised us of a change.

Changes should be made by returning the form by post, however people with no changes may wish to confirm via telephone or internet. For more information contact FDC’s electoral team by phone on 01354 654321 or by email elections@fenland.gov.uk

Trial Markets in run-up to Christmas

Nine special local produce and craft markets are being held by Fenland District Council over the next three months as a trial in the run-up to Christmas.

They will act as a pilot to gauge the potential for this style of market in Chatteris, March and Whittlesey. They will also seek to offer the public a new shopping experience within local town centres in the pre-Christmas shopping period. These events are part of the ongoing ‘Love your Local Fenland Market’ promotion which is increasing the profile of our town centre markets.

Traders are being offered pitches, with gazebos if required, for £15 per market. As a bonus, those stallholders who book slots at all nine markets will get one free.

All traders will be required to send in proof of public and, if applicable, product liability insurance. Food businesses will have to provide evidence that they are registered with their local council.

For further details, call Mike Chapman, FDC’s markets and events manager on 01354 654321 or email marketsandevents@fenland.gov.uk

The Golden Age Team are back

The team will be visiting Benwick Village Hall on 16 October 2013 between 10am and 1pm to offer advice and practical help to older people. Free mini-health checks, including blood pressure testing will be available with news of all the latest offers at the Fenland leisure centres. Also, the Fenland Ferret will be present to identify any benefits that people may be entitled to.

People can also try a game of new age curling, or simply enjoy tea, biscuits and a chat. All visitors will receive a Golden Age shopping bag containing a host of helpful information.
