DAVID Hodgson and Garry Tibbs are the Conservative candidates set to contest the Staithe Ward by-election following the tragic death of fellow Conservative Cllr Roger Green.
Both live in the area and are very active in the community.
David and Garry said: “Roger was a brilliant councillor and we can only promise to do our best to serve the people of this ward and the town that we love.”
David is the candidate for Fenland District Council and he has been married to Judy for 37 years and they have a daughter and a son and two granddaughters. Their son serves in the RAF and has returned safely from Afghanistan.
David is a past chairman of the Wisbech Business and Professional Men’s Club and secretary of the Wisbech Camera Club. He worked with the Octavia Hill Birthplace House to organise this year’s Wisbech Photographic Festival.
David is also past Chairman of the Wisbech Table Tennis Association and has coached at three local schools.
He is convinced that competitive sport in young people encourages respect and discipline and helps reduce anti-social behaviour.
Garry is the candidate for Wisbech Town Council and was proud to have Roger Green as his councillor as he has lived in the ward all his life.
He was educated at the Queen’s School and the College of West Anglia.
Garry helps raise money for local charities. Recently he helped organise the entertainment for a fund-raiser for a local girl with leukaemia. He is the honorary treasurer of Conservative Future (formerly the Young Conservatives).
Garry loves going to live music shows and is a keen member of a local amateur dramatics group. He also enjoys flying sports kites and computerised and tabletop gaming.
The by-election takes place on September 22
