A new “two-in-one” refuse vehicle is being used to enable Fenland District Council’s refuse and recycling teams to continue to deliver a high quality and cost-effective service to some of the more remote parts of the district.
The vehicle is specially designed with two separate sections to allow it to collect blue and brown bins at the same time. This reduces the amount of miles travelled and time spent servicing far-flung locations.
The introduction of the vehicle is part of the efficiency drive that has been running within refuse and recycling over recent years.
Councillor Peter Murphy, FDC’s portfolio holder responsible for the environment and Street Scene, said: “We are particularly proud of how the frontline teams have improved their efficiency over the past few years. This vehicle demonstrates our one-team approach to developing and implementing cost-saving measures to cut our costs while continuing to provide top-quality services.”
