The window of an Upwell shop has been decorated for this year’s Poppy Appeal in a throw-back to former years when it was done on an annual basis.

The village bridal shop may not now be open to the public, but the colourful Poppy display has given a new lease of life to the unit and is promoting the good work of the Upwell branch of the Royal British Legion at the same time.

Shop owners Nick and Rita Pritchard have long been supporters of the British Legion and the store windows used to be regularly decorated for the Poppy Appeal.

Branch chairman David Gray came up with the idea of reviving the old tradition and it has been very successful, with wreaths, posters and displays filling the two large windows at the front of the store.

Upwell has a strong British Legion branch and last year’s Poppy Appeal raised £3,300.

However, as with many other branches across the region, Upwell is struggling for members and needs an injection of fresh blood to give it a new lease of life.

The membership year has just started, so it is the perfect time for new members to join and get the most out of their subscription.
