Union representatives were in Wisbech on Thursday to collect signatures for a petition opposing the plan to move Wisbech Post Office.

The Post Office wants to move the local branch by linking it with a retail partner, closing the existing Bridge Street location. But the Communication Workers Union oppose the move, which affects 70 Crown branches across the country.

Tim Pavelin and Dave Smith, representatives from the Eastern area, were asking Wisbech people to sign a petition against the move. They were also asking people to write to Post Office chief executive Paula Vennells.

Tim, who believes the Post Office should be investing in branches rather than closing them down, said: “The people of Wisbech have been fantastic. When we’ve been here, it’s been tremendous. We can only thank them for their support.”
