Essential resurfacing work has been completed on a badly potholed and crumbling fen road.
News of the work on Byall Fen Drove which connects Manea to Chatteris has been welcomed by local MP Stephen Barclay, who wrote to Cambridgeshire Highways calling for urgent action after receiving complaints from local residents.
Following the MP’s intervention the County Council carried out remedial works including patching up the road, grip cutting and making improvements to the road edges and verges.
Residents raised concerns over the potential hazards of crumbling and broken tarmac on the track which is regularly used by lorries and tractors on the way to the Manea Extraction site.
Writing to the MP, residents described the state of the road as an ‘accident waiting to happen’ and raised particular concerns over the combination of poor road conditions with limited visibility during the winter months.
Mr Barclay said: “I am very glad that the County Council took prompt action to address the issues I raised on behalf of residents
“It was clearly in a very bad state of repair with cracked and crumbling tarmac and had become increasingly unsafe as a result of vehicles and machinery passing through.”
