RailFuture East Anglia Branch has received support from Cambs County Council following the presentation of a petition with almost 3,000 signatures last month, calling for the re-opening of the Wisbech rail line.

The petition was handed to the county council and council leader, Martin Curtis, has told campaigners the council welcomed the petition and all the work they have put into the campaign to re-open the Wisbech to March rail line to provide a through train service to Cambridge.

Cllr Curtis has told campaigners it is important to show the strength of local feeling. He said the council supports the goal of better transport links to and from Wisbech and hopes a positive outcome for Wisbech can be achieved as soon as possible.

The council has commissioned work to understand the feasibility of different options and get some idea of the likely costs involved.
