A YOUNG sportsman has bagged a £50 runners-up prize for Wisbech Rugby Club after making it through to the final of a competition which promotes young people as positive role models.

Frank Etherington (11) received the prize at a special ceremony at Ely Cathedral after being the youngest person to make the final of the Cambridgeshire Constabulary Young People of the Year - YOPEY awards.

Frank was nominated by his father Shaun and highlighted as a shining example of how young people can build on their sporting passion to help their club to more than just victories.

As well as being a dedicated and talented junior player for the rugby club, Frank has raised over £1,000 for the Chapel Lane club through his off-the-field efforts.

YOPEY founder Tony Gearing said: “Frank has shown that a passion for sport does not have to be only self-serving. Sport, as demonstrated by Frank, can be beneficial to both his team-mates and wider club.”
