Work finally started in June on the long-awaited £50 million Cromwell Retail Park development in Wisbech.

The project has been in the planning for almost ten years and there were many people who believed it would never happen.

But contractors moved onto the site in mid-June and started clearing the site of the former Wisbech greyhound stadium.

Now the development, which will see a new Tesco Extra store, an eight-screen digital cinema and restaurants, is in its final stages.

Tesco is being fitted out internally to get ready for its February opening and work has also started inside the cinema. The cinema will open slightly later in April but by Easter, the first stage of the development should be complete. Next attention will hopefully turn to the current Tesco site.
