GILDO’S Motorcycle Centre in Weasenham Lane will be a major control on the 2012 National Road Rally, with competitors visiting the bike shop from 2pm on Saturday June 30.

The rally is organised by the Auto Cycle Union and the British Motorcyclists Federation and raises sponsorship for Mencap.

The National Road Rally was first held in 1933 and it is the biggest road-based motorcycle event held in the UK.

The rally is open to anyone who holds a full motorcycle licence plus it helps if you can read a map.

Two and three wheeled bikes and trikes plus four-wheeled quads compete for a coveted Finisher’s Plaque by riding between 200 and 540 miles while visiting control points scattered across middle-England.

At 11am on Saturday (April 14) the rally will be officially launched in Wisbech with the presentation of a Personalised Control Sign at Gildo’s Motorcycle Centre at a gathering organised by the local British Motorcycle Federation Branch.

The rally is a Navigational Scatter which means entrants are issued with a Matrix Map and a list of controls to plan and plot their own routes to achieve their personal targets.

This ensures that there are no groups of bikes travelling together.

Entries are now open – with nearly 300 already signed-up, full details are available on the Rally web site at: www.nationalroadrally.co.uk or from Alison at the ACU on 01788-566409 – There is also a How-To-Do-It Video available to view at http://youtu.be/N15BMmjkAJY.
