SATURDAY’S Rose Fair parade went off without a hitch, despite a number of floats pulling out at the last minute to the disappointment of organisers.
But Wisbech Round Table still pulled out all the stops to produce a treat for visitors and the public showed their support by donating a massive 180 kilogrammes of cash.
Unfortunately the Peter-borough Highland Pipe Band were absent from the front of the parade due to another booking, but Rose Fair chairman Daniel Ball is making every attempt to secure them for next year.
Instead music was provided by a lively salsa group and a band, as well as music from the various floats.
For the second year running, Marshland St James Primary School and Nursery were crowned the overall winners with their Great Fire of London float. It proved to be a winning theme, as Clarkson Infants’ School and Nursery were named the junior winners with their Fire of London float. Beaupre Community Primary School, who chose the first Olympic games as their theme, won the highly commended shield.
The number of floats were down on previous years and the Round Table is hoping more groups will get involved next year. Daniel Ball is planning a big push to make next year bigger than ever.
Wisbech churches also had thousands of visitors attend to look at the beautiful floral displays.
