A PRESENTATION was tinged with sadness on Monday when people learned of the death of long-standing cancer fundraiser, John Barker, of Wisbech.
Mr Barker - a big supporter of help for local cancer sufferers and their families - was treasurer of Wisbech and District Cancer Support Group.
Mr Barker and his wife Anita founded the group over ten years ago with Anita as chairman and John as treasurer.
It is a cause close to the couple’s hearts and the group have gone on to raise thousands of pounds to help local people with all manner of equipment.
Mr Barker, a former local policeman, councillor and Mayor of Wisbech, lost his battle with cancer and Trustee Andy Green said it was sad day.
Despite the sad turn of events, group members were involved in a presentation which saw four morphine syringe drivers, costing around £4,000, presented to the team of local District Nurses.
A total of £2,000 of this was raised at Mr Green’s 60th birthday celebration in June when he asked for donations instead of gifts.
He then donated this money to the group for the syringes.
Mr Green has said a big thank you to everyone for their generosity.
The presentation was made at Wisbech’s Trinity Surgery to District Nurse Shirley Clements.
