Wisbech footballer has picked up the top goalscorer of the year award for her league after notching up an impressive 24 goals in only her first season.
Savanna Plavecz, who is the twin daughter of Sonya Plavecz of Wisbech, joined Hungate Rovers Youth FC last year when the club launched their first girls team.
Savanna and her team mates spent last season training with manager/coach Darren McManus and Sarah Simmons learning the basics of the game including the rules. Last May the girls played in the EFS Butlins Football Competition, where they failed to win a game, although keeper Phoebe Porter picked up a special award as the U11s player of the tournament.
The girls were then entered into the Cambridgeshire S-Tech U11 League for 2012/13 and competed in 16 matches winning 11, drawing one and losing four.
Against all the odds the team were league runners-up coming only three points winners Hampton FC. But more impressively the Hungate girls managed to earn three places in the top 10 scorers.
Savanna who came top of the scorers with her whopping 24 goals, Brooke Harris in fourth with nine goals and Kelly McManus who came sixth with seven goals.
The following girls picked up special awards at the end of the season awards: Jade Jupp who won Player’s Player, Brooke Harris who won Supporters’ player and Savanna Plavecz who won Manager’s Player for outstanding play throughout the year.
Last weekend the girls split into two teams and competed in Hungate Annual Gala in the U10/11 competition. Both teams made it to the semi-finals drawing against each other. After a tight game the green team managed to score a single goal to knockout the yellow team and went on to play Hampton in the final winning the match.
The both Darren and Sarah are delighted and extremely proud of the girls’ great effort this season and look forward to the next season as they compete in the U12s section.
