TYDD St Mary Primary School has taken part in a celebration to mark the 200th anniversary of the National Society as the school prepares to celebrate its own 50th birthday.

A special event is being planned for Wednesday, June 27, which is 50 years to the day that the current school building opened its doors.

Headteacher Sonya Ripley would like to hear from anyone who attended or worked at the school and has memorabilia that can be added to a display, such as report cards or photographs.

On Monday, the school received a candle that has been making its way around every church school in the Lincoln diocese.

Members of the school had previously attended a service in Lincoln Cathedral back in July, when the candle was originally lit to mark the 200th anniversary.

It has been travelling around schools in the district and spending a day in each location.

The candle was at William Stukeley School in Holbeach prior to Tydd St Mary and went on to Gedney Hill Primary School.

• If you have any memorabilia that can be included in the Tydd St Mary Primary School 50th anniversary celebration, contact headteacher Sonya Ripley on 01945-420269.
