FORMER March Mayor John West has died at home, aged 66.

Cllr West was found yesterday evening (Tuesday) by his wife of 41 years, Carol.

Mr West, who was mayor last year, was a town, district and county councillor who represented March North.

Clive Lemmon, clerk at March Town Council, said Mr West will be sadly missed.

“He was one of those people who was always at the front of the queue when it was volunteering for things. He was always a great help to anyone who approached him.”

The leader of Cambridgeshire County Council, Cllr Jill Tuck, today paid tribute to him.

She said: “All members of the County Council are deeply saddened by the loss of John. He worked extraordinarily hard for the people he represented on the Town, District and County Councils and he will be missed by his councillor colleagues and his community. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

It is not yet known what caused Mr West’s death.
