A new sign has been erected in March Market Place as part of continuing efforts to put the market back at the heart of community life.

The sign includes a space where local groups can publicise forthcoming events, as well as enabling Fenland District Council to advertise special activities in the market itself.

Councillor Pop Jolley, FDC’s portfolio holder responsible for markets and tourism, said: “In itself the new sign is just a small thing, but it is part of a bigger picture in which we are working hard to promote March and Fenland as a whole as a great place to live and visit.

“That’s why the Cambridgehire Fens logo is displayed on the sign – to encourage people to go to our tourism website, www.visitcambridgeshirefens.org, and see everything that’s on there.

“We hope people will take advantage of the promotional space that’s on offer.”

Last month FDC announced that as part of the ‘Love Your Local Fenland Market’ campaign it was holding nine trial produce and craft markets in March, Chatteris and Whittlesey in the run-up to Christmas. A series of other special activities and events are also being organised (see below).

To find out how to get your event or activities posted on the sign, call Vicki Whittingstall, FDC’s economic development officer (tourism and culture), on 01354 654321 or email your publicity material to tourism@fenland.gov.uk
