A Wisbech Scout leader has been presented with one of Scouting’s top awards, the Silver Acorn.

Jennifer Bellamy, who until recently lived in Colvile Road, received the prestigious award in front of 80 people at the Robert Hall Centre, Wisbech.

Long-time Scouting friend Beryl Boyce and Fenland Scouts’ District Commissioner John Lattimore congratulated Jenny on her award.

News of the award came in the St George’s Day Honours List, printed in the national Scouting magazine and was awarded to Jenny “in recognition of specially distinguished service”.

Jenny has served in several capacities in Wisbech and beyond. She was first a Scout and Cub parent to Kevin, Nicky and Steven. Then she joined the 3rd Wisbech (St Augustine’s) group as assistant Cub leader and later full Cib leader.

On a wider scale, with her late husband Tony, she helped to run Cub activities all over Cambridgeshire. Latterly Jenny has not only been Assistant Cub Scout leader with the 3rd but also district manager for the Fenland Scout Active Support Unit, formerly the Scout Fellowship.

The presentation took place in front of representatives of all Scouting sections – Beavers, Cibs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts – as well as parents and Mayor Vivien MacRae, who congratulated Jenny on her outstanding service.
