Pensioners from across the area enjoyed a morning of socialising and film.

The Light Cinema in Wisbech hosted its first Silver Monday event with The Rotary Club of Wisbech,welcoming around 170 over 60s to the cinema. People came from across Fenland, from as far afield as Whittlesey and March.

Volunteers from several local Rotary Clubs were on hand to serve tea and coffee to guests, who had a chance to sit and chat with each other before watching The Lady in the Van, starring Maggie Smith.

The Rotary Club of Wisbech President Daljit Roy said: “The initial launch has been a huge success. Rotary is committed to improving the lives of people in our community.”

Emma McGuire, marketing and events co-ordinator at The Light, said: “It was lovely to see so many people enjoying themselves at our first Silver Monday. We were delighted to work with the Rotary Club to offer this valuable event to so many lonely and vulnerable people and we hope to see many of them return for future events.”

Tickets for the next Silver Monday event, taking place on Monday, December 14, are on sale now.

The film will be festive favourite ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’. Tickets, costing £2.50 each, are available from the Light Cinema or from Valerie Smith on 01945 860596.

Donations to The Rotary Club can be made by texting ROTA22, which will cost £1, and shopping through ‘Give as you Live’ where retailers give a percentage to the charity.
