Silver wings for Air Cadet Oli

CADET Flight Sergeant Oli Grocott (17) from 272 (Wisbech) Squadron Air Cadets flew solo in a glider for the first time and gained his silver wings.

Oli took part in a week long course at 611 Gliding School at Watton and followed this up with several weekends to enable him to complete the course.

Oli flew solo for the first time and the following day added another two solo flights to his log book.

Having completed his training on the Viking
conventional glider he is now awaiting retraining on the Vigilant self launching motor gliding.

This opportunity was quite special for Oli as it is a chance that not many Air Cadets get the chance to take up
as places are very few and far between for this course.

Over the last few years Oli has shown dedication to the Air Cadets and Wisbech Squadron, becoming
a Flight Sergeant and the senior cadet on the squadron.

He is also a staff cadet at 611 Gliding School.

This is one of the first gliding qualifications on Wisbech squadron for a number of years.

“It is definitely the best experience I have had while in the Air Cadets, I would definitely recommend it to others,” said Oli.
