Slimming World Groups from West Norfolk and the Fens raised over £700 for Cancer Research UK when they staged their Race for Life event at Sandringham on Sunday.
More than 70 Slimming World members from local groups including Hunstanton, South Lynn, Providence Street in Lynn, Reffley, Beulah Street in Gaywood, Dersingham, Springwood High School in Gaywood, Terrington, Wisbech, Downham, Marham, Swaffham, Doddington and March turned out to take part and raise money for Cancer Research UK, the organisation’s charity partner throughout 2014.
The groups’ race was part of a wider national event running across all Slimming World Groups during July and August. The race was not competitive and those taking part could choose the distance they wanted to cover.
The aim of Slimming World’s Race for Life is to raise awareness about the benefits of getting active including increasing energy levels, reducing stress, building self esteem, improving health and helping to maintain a healthy weight. Having an active lifestyle also reduces the risk of developing a range of health conditions, including some types of cancer.
Team Developer Helen Moore said: “I was delighted to see so many members and their families turn up to support this event. Cancer affects everyone on so many different ways and everyone had their own reasons for taking part in the walk. We raised a fantastic £600 on the day with more still to come in from collections being held in group this week. It was a very successful day that we hope to repeat and build on for next year’s event.”
