MOVE over Elton John, residents at a Chatteris care home have made their own specs to rival some of the crazy frames worn by the flambouyant singer.

Residents and staff at Swan House used feathers, glitter and a range of craft materials to make spectacles as part of an activity arranged to highlight Age UK’s Fall Awareness Week.

Martin Gibbs, of local opticians Spectacular, gave a talk about eye care and how important it is to look after your eyes.

The falls campaign also included the importance of wearing the correct glasses as wearing wrong ones can lead to falls.

As a result, residents and staff decided to make their own range of whacky frames and Mr Tibbs judged the top three.

The winner was 98-year-old Edward Norwood, who wins £100 worth of eye care donated by Spectacular.

The talk on Thursday was followed with tea, cakes and sherry.

Claire Bedford, personal activity leader at Swan House, organised the competition and said residents made all sorts from art deco to Elton John!
