A March schoolgirl is going to be walking more than two miles to raise money for a local dog rescue.
Dog lover Ellie-Mae Ridgeon (7) came up with the idea of a sponsored walk to raise cash for her favourite rescue JJ Rescue and Cannie Rehab, which is based in March.
Ellie-Mae has been volunteering as a dog walker over the school holidays and at weekends and will be taking one of her favourite dogs, Buster, with her when she does the walk on November 23.
The All Saints Academy pupil will be starting from the Pet Shop on Commercial Road and walking to the Neale-Wade, a distance of around 2.6 miles.
Ellie-Mae will be accompanied by her dad Mark and hopefully Rob Phipps, from JJ Rescue. She will be going down Norwood Road, along Station Road, through Broad Street then down to Neale-Wade.
Mum Shelley said: “We are incredibly proud of her. She has done this all off her own back.”
She will be carrying a bucket for donations, so if you see Ellie-Mae on November 23, be sure to give her some pennies. There are also donation buckets in the Station Road and Commericial Road Pet Shops, plus sponsorship forms.
A raffle will be held to raise additional funds and some great prizes have already been donated. If you would like to add something to the prize fund, they can be dropped off at the pet shops as well.
JJ Rescue specialises in taking in those animals who have struggled to find new homes. Rob works through any issues they may have and all animals are vaccinated, neutered, chipped, wormed and treated for fleas before they are rehomed.
