Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing Air Training Corps recently held its annual parade and review at RAF Wyton.

The parade consisted of over 300 uniformed cadets and staff members from across the two counties. Having been named the Walker trophy winners for the best squadron in Beds & Cambs Wing for the third year running, cadets and staff from 1220 (March) Squadron formed the Escort Squadron.

This prestigious role involves wearing white belts and gloves and marching onto parade in front of the rest of the wing.

The parade was inspected by reviewing officer Group Captain Geoff Hewitt, the regional commandant for Central and East Region Air Training Corps. Following the inspection the annual awards were presented. Cadet Flight Sergeant Daniel Lowe collected the Walker trophy on behalf of the squadron.

Officer Commanding 1220 Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Kirsty Burnham, was presented with a clasp for her Cadet Forces Medal, awarded for completing 18 years of uniformed service. After the presentation of awards the wing marched off with the Escort Squadron leading. This was a proud moment for many of the cadets’ parents who had come along to watch.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Lowe said: “I was immensely pleased to be chosen to collect the Walker trophy on behalf of the Squadron.”
