START-up businesses in the Fenland area are encouraged to apply to a local Dragons Den to win a share of a £5,000 business prize, before the deadline at the end of this month.
With just over two weeks left to bid, local entrepreneurs still have chance to submit their business plans.
Shortlisted applicants will have the opportunity to pitch to local dragons at a special event in June. Winning pitches will receive a share of £2,500 in cash, as well as benefiting from a package of up to £2,500 of professional business support.
The Dragons Den is run by local enterprise agency NWES as part of a two-year project funded by Roddons Housing Association, part of Circle Housing Group. The project is designed to help people start up their own business and local accountants Whiting and Partners and solicitors Fraser Dawbarns have pledged to provide business support.
Peter and Sheila Bell set up their business, Marshland Trailers in Wisbech, with help from NWES and have encouraged those looking to do the same to make the most of this latest opportunity.
Sheila Bell said: “It was great to get help from NWES right from the start. We knew we had the business idea but we’ve never worked for ourselves before so NWES provided support and guidance to get us going. The Dragons Den sounds a fantastic opportunity and with the offer of free cash to help get started, there isn’t any reason not to apply.”
Anyone with a viable business plan and the drive and enthusiasm to develop it is urged to apply by Thursday May 31.
Applicants must be over 18 and live in the Fenland District Council area.
